What a third round matchup we have here. The No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks and the No. 8 North Carolina Tar Heels will be taking on each other and it won’t be for a national championship game or anything close to it. Instead, the winner will just advance to the Sweet 16.
That just shows you how different these two team’s seasons have been this season. The Tar Heels have not been very Tar Heel-like this year, but it is still pretty cool to see Roy Williams and Bill Self go head-to-head in the NCAA Tournament.
Although Kansas made it to the third round, it did not look very good against the No. 16 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, only winning by seven points. North Carolina edged out the No. 9 Villanova Wildcats also by seven points.
What to Watch For
This will be a game played between two very historical basketball programs, along with two very great coaches going head-to-head. Roy Williams will be coaching against his old team and the winner will advance to the Sweet 16. What is there not to watch in this game? This third round matchup is flooding with story lines.
P.J. Hairston has been one of the best Tar Heels this season and he proved that once again by dropping 23 points against Villanova. James Michael McAdoo could also give Kansas a lot of problems.
Ben McLemore will catch a lot of the attention, since he will most likely be a top five pick in the next NBA draft. McLemore was only able to score 11 points in the second round, though.
Despite this game having many headlines and being pretty historical, Kansas has a way better team than North Carolina and should move on to the next round. However, who knows what Williams has up his sleeve.
