2013 NCAA Tournament: No. 3 Florida Gators Making Trip To Sweet 16

Jim Cowsert-USA TODAY Sports

The No. 3 Florida Gators will be moving on to the Sweet 16 in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

Florida was able to beat the No. 14 Northwestern State Demons in the second round by 32 points. Erik Murphy and Patric Young were the scoring leaders in that game, combing for 34 points.

The Gators then took on the No. 11 Minnesota Gophers and were in absolute control leading by 21 points at the half, but Minnesota’s Andre Hollins went off in the second half and made things interesting for a little bit. Hollins finished with 25 points in the game, while Mike Rosario matched that point total for Florida. Murphy also had 15 points. The Gators pulled away down the stretch and will now be taking on the winner between  No. 7 San Diego State and No. 15 Florida Gulf Coast.

No matter which team Florida faces, the Gators will easily be the favorites going in not only because of their seed, but the way they have been playing in the Big Dance. However, if Florida Gulf Coast can pull off another upset against San Diego State, everyone will be cheering for the Cinderella in the Sweet 16.

Florida has been very good on the offensive side of the ball in the tournament and they have been using threes to help pull them away from teams. If the Gators can continue to dominate teams on both sides of the ball, they will likely make their third straight Elite Eight, but a Final Four appearance and national championship is definitely what this team is after.
