2013 NCAA Tournament: Oregon Shows They Are More Than A 12 Seed with Second Tournament Victory
Since the brackets were released on Selection Sunday, many thought the Oregon Ducks were snubbed by being a given a 12 seed in the NCAA Tournament. With victories over both No. 5 seed Oklahoma State and a No. 4 seed Saint Louis, Oregon proved the selection committee should have had them as a higher seed.
In their game against St. Louis, the Ducks came out firing and continued their hot streak. They were on fire from beyond the arc, making eight of 11 three pointers or 72.7%. They also did a good job of defending their opponents from three holding them to a dismal 14.3% three point shooting.
Oregon wasn’t only hot from beyond the arc, but connected elsewhere shooting 52.8% overall. Between that and playing tough defense, Oregon dominated St. Louis. It wasn’t even close come half with Oregon up by 35-19, The Ducks out-rebounded their opponent tonight 37-23, and that just added to their performance of showing that they are more than a 12 seed.
St. Louis has had a great season, but Oregon’s hot streak and upsets didn’t stop because of their fast start, hot shooting, and their rebounding game. Between this game and their round of 64 game against Oklahoma St., Oregon is well on their way to providing yet another upset. They aren’t a true No. 12 seed, but it will still be considered an upset at this point.
Oregon deserved a higher seed from the start, but I don’t think they will mind what their seed is as long as they can keep playing as well as they have the last two games. Oregon will take on No. 1 seed Louisville in the Sweet 16, but don’t count Oregon out from providing tough match-up for Louisville.
