2013 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 Preview: No. 9 Wichita State vs. No. 13 LaSalle

A pair of Cinderellas playing in the Sweet 16? Where do I signup? It is amazing to think that either the LaSalle Explorers or the Wichita State Shockers are headed to the Elite Eight, but the NCAA Tournament has played out that way. LaSalle had to play an extra game to get here, but both had to pull off a slew of upsets to be put in this position.

The game is going to be a battle in which a physical style faces off against a little more finesse, where the outcome can be determined in the first 10 minutes of the game.

What to Watch For

The Shockers have good athletic talent. They also love to bang with other teams and use their athletes to bully around other teams. Gregg Marshall does a great job putting his players in a position to succeed, and Wichita State needs to establish their style of play early. It isn’t that they can’t go up and down the court with the opposition, but their physical gifts seems best suited to be used underneath to slap the opponent into submission.

Ramon Galloway has officially made a name for himself in the big dance. Averaging just over 21 points per game, Galloway can help null and void the Shockers style of play by using his basket-making abilities and helping get LaSalle an early lead. If the Explorers can change the style in which this game is played, this game might end up being a coin toss.

Both teams have good players and are well coached. I just feel that at this point in the dance, Galloway’s star is shining brightest.
