Howard Smith-USA Today Sports

The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles have landed themselves within the national spotlight with their recent NCAA Tournament success.

The Eagles became the first ever No. 15 seed to advance to the Sweet 16 on Sunday and with that success has come the publicity and hype surrounding the Florida Gulf Coast program.

Now, the focus right now remains on the Eagles’ Sweet 16 opponent in Florida and their attempt to continue their Cinderella run. However, with their overnight success has come the speculation involving head coach Andy Enfield and the university’s efforts to keep him in charge.

Enfield is a hot name right now and for good reason. Florida Gulf Coast is well aware of this and that’s a good thing. According to reports, the university is attempting to fund raise for Enfield in their effort to double his salary for next season. The Eagles are hoping to pay Enfield around $300,000 per season, but will that be enough? Or for that matter, is it worth it?

On Monday, Minnesota made the decision to fire head coachTubby Smith and by automatic speculation, Enfield’s name was linked to the Golden Gophers. It’s just an instant reaction of what he has accomplished and that’s what comes with his name being some highly sought after considering the Eagles’ run.

It’s well deserved and it’s certainly going to be an interesting situation after the Eagles’ run comes to a close. Whenever that may be.

Enfield has guided Florida Gulf Coast to this, their first NCAA Tournament appearance and we all know the facts behind it as they prepare for their Sweet 16 match-up on Friday night.
