2013 NCAA Tournament Keys to Upset: Syracuse Orange
The Syracuse Orange play the role of underdog as often as little kids say they despise cartoons. However, that is exactly where the team finds themselves heading into their Sweet 16 match-up against the Indiana Hoosiers. Not that an Orange win would be a monumental upset, but it would be considered a little bit of a surprise considering the NCAA Tournament seeding of both teams.
Michael Carter-Williams Version?
Carter-Williams is a bit of an enigma. The sophomore has undeniable talent and troublesome size for opponents. Yet, he also carries the perceived baggage of being a not so swell basketball player from time to time. Williams is going to need to bring the best version of himself if the Orange has any plans on winning.
Is it Christmas Time Yet?
Rakeem Christmas doesn’t get a ton of playing time nor does he strike other-worldly fear into opponents’ hearts. Still, the big man can help play a crucial role in the possible success of Syracuse. Whether Jim Boeheim has him play the role of goon or just as a filler, Christmas has to make the most out of his minutes on the court. What Indiana does as well as Syracuse is rebound. Christmas needs to help off-set the otherwise even rebounding battle and tilt it in the favor of the Orange.
Pretty simple really. Syracuse cannot get caught up in Indian’s sometimes up-tempo style of play. The Orange might be physically gifted enough to keep up in spurts, but are not accustomed to playing that style of basketball. Being a member of the Big East Conference very rarely screams transition hoops.
On a Scale of 1-100 Chances of Upset (Likelihood of winning. Not if I think they can)
44 (Although, this wouldn’t really be an upset)
