Washington State Makes the Decision to Retain Head Coach Ken Bone

Washington State officials and men’s basketball coach Ken Bone reportedly met on Wednesday night and the university has made the decision to retain their head man for at least one more season.

The Cougars finished the 2012-13 season at the bottom of the Pac-12 Conference and Bone is struggling to turn around the Washington State program. After the dismissal of starting point guard Reggie Moore put a damper on the season before action even began, it came as no surprise that the Cougars finished where they finished.

Washington State was 13-19 on the year and 4-14 within league play in 2012-13.

In four full seasons at Washington State, Bone has totaled a 70-65 record overall. The Cougars have not been a legitimate threat within the conference since his arrival. In fact, a 9-9 conference record during the 2010-11 season was the best finish that Washington State has had within the Pac-12 since Bone took over.

The decision to retain Bone does not come as the biggest surprise, especially considering the fact that it’s clear the Bone is on the hot seat. In order for him to retain his position following the 2013-14 season however, it’s likely to take a big time performance next year.

We will see how this play out over the next year or so, but Bone certainly needs to work wonders from this point on, but that much was probably obvious even before this news emerged.
