Ten CAA Players Named Among Members Of The NABC All-District 10 Teams

After what was considered a down and less exciting year in the Colonial Athletic Association, many players in the mid-major conference were able to excel and thrive within their teams and programs. This week, many players who were honored with All-CAA awards during the conference’s Mar. 8 banquet in downtown Richmond have been rightly awarded for their terrific campaigns with various post-season honors.

Towson junior forward Jerrelle Benimon, this year’s CAA Player of the Year, was named to the All-ECAC second team as well.

Benimon and UNCW senior forward Keith Rendleman, the all-time leader in rebounding at the school, were selected to the CollegeInsider.com 25-player Lou Henson All-America team that recognizes the top mid-major players in the country. Both players were also named to the NABC All-District 10 team.

Delaware junior guard Devon Saddler, who led the conference in scoring at 19.9 points per game, was selected to the USBWA All-District 2 team and first-team NABC All-District 10.

Northeastern senior guard and first-team All-CAA selection Joel Smith was also named to the NABC All-District 10 team, along with William & Mary sophomore standout scorer Marcus Thornton.

Delaware senior forward Jamelle Hagins, Georgia State freshman guard R.J. Hunter, Drexel sophomore guard Damion Lee, James Madison senior guard Devon Moore and George Mason junior guard Sherrod Wright were also all named to the NBAC All-District 10 second Team.

So, while many members of the media and fans of the conference criticized the CA’s lack of competition and star power this season, the league’s players clearly performed at extremely high and award-winning levels.
