Illinois Fighting Illini Losing Mike Shaw, Devin Langford and Ibby Djimde to Transfer
The Illinois Fighting Illini will be losing three players to transfer this off-season as Mike Shaw, Devin Langford and Ibby Djimde have all elected to transfer, according to various reports.
ESPN Chicago first broke the news of Shaw’s decision to transfer on Friday morning. The report also credited sources that said Langford and Djimdge are also on the move.
Shaw, a 6-foot-8 sophomore forward, told ESPN Chicago that he is choosing to transfer because of playing time. He spent his freshman season playing under head coach Bruce Weber and actually logged more minutes on the court in that scenario than he did here in 2012-13. Shaw averaged 0.9 points per game in just over three minutes a contest in 2012-13.
Djimde is also a sophomore forward and he too was seldom used by head coach John Groce. Djimde averaged under two minutes per contest this season, scoring only two points all season long.
Langford, a 6-foot-7 freshman forward, is the last of the trio to leave the university. Langford averaged 0.5 points in 4.3 minutes per game this season.
While it may seem alarming that three players are electing to transfer, it’s not a big deal at all for Illinois fans. Shaw, Djimde and Langford were not used very much this season and all three will have the opportunity elsewhere to increase their playing time. It very well could become a win-win situation.
In his first season at Illinois, Groce led the Illini to the NCAA Tournament before being eliminated in the Round of 32 by No. 2 Miami (FL).
