2013 NCAA Tournament: Can No. 9 Wichita State Shockers Make the Final Four?

Coming into the 2012-13 college basketball season, not many people thought that the Wichita State Shockers would be playing in the Elite Eight with a chance to go to the Final Four. The likes of this happening decreased even more when the Shockers were granted a No. 9 seed and would likely have to play the No. 1 Gonzaga Bulldogs. Well, the Shockers have defined a lot of odds and they definitely have a chance to beat the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes and reach the Final Four.

After taking down No. 8 Pittsburgh, No. 1 Gonzaga and No. 13 La Salle, the toughest opponent may be ahead in the Buckeyes. However, I don’t remember Ohio State taking down the No. 1 team in the West Region. Not to mention, Ohio State has just been getting by, with two game winning shots going down with time pretty much expiring in the last two rounds.

Sure, that gives a team like the Buckeyes a lot of momentum, but Wichita State is right there with them.

However, Cleanthony Early will have to come up big for this team, like he has done all season long and the rest of this team has to be big on offense.

If the Shockers can somehow stop Deshaun Thomas, then this game will be in the bag. Although Thomas will be the best player on the court today, wouldn’t that be something if Wichita State actually shut him down?

The Shockers are only giving up 61 points per game in the NCAA Tournament, so it could be possible. However, Thomas has cracked the 20-point mark in every tourney game so far.

Whether the case, Wichita State has made it this far, so who is to say that they cannot pull off another victory and reach the Final Four? However, if the game is on the line, this team better make sure that Ohio State does not get the last shot of the game.
