Who Will Replace Tubby Smith for Minnesota Gophers Head Coaching Job?

Like it or not, Tubby Smith is no longer the head coach of the Minnesota Gophers, so who will replace him?

VCU’s Shaka Smart and Butler’s Brad Stevens seem to be happy where they are at right now. We all know that those two names pop up every time a head coaching job opens up at a big time school, but why would either coach leave if they are making history at their respected schools? I guess money is the only logical reason.

Anyways, we can spread rumors all we want about who the new head coach will be for Minnesota, but nothing is certain until it actually happens. There are many mid-major coaches on the rise, who could take the job and there are also former NBA coaches that would likely fit in great with the Gophers.

Personally, I think a coach we are not talking about will take the job, just like what happened with UCLA. New Mexico’s Steve Alford is now the coach for the Bruins, according to ESPN. New Mexico was the best team in the MWC this year, winning both the regular season title and the conference tournament title. Who would have thought Alford would want to leave a great college basketball team like New Mexico?

Well, it happened and there is a chance that another successful coach will take the reigns for Minnesota. Who wouldn’t want the job though? The Big Ten Conference is consistently one of the best in college basketball every season. Time will only tell who that lucky coach will be.
