NCAA Tournament: The Two Best Remaining Teams Square off in the Elite 8
With Wichita State and Syracuse clinching their births to the Final 4 yesterday, only six teams are left in the NCAA tournament. Two more teams will be eliminated today as the Final 4 will be set by the end of the day.
One of the two Elite 8 games today will provide a match-up of the two best teams left in the NCAA tournament. Duke and Louisville have played phenomenal basketball all year long and have continued their fantastic play in the tournament, but one of their seasons will be over today.
Louisville is the tournament’s top overall seed and the only No. 1 seed remaining while Duke is the only No. 2 seed remaining in this year’s wild NCAA tournament.
Regardless of seeding, Duke and Louisville were the two best teams in the tournament the entire time. How could you argue against it?
With Ryan Kelly in the lineup, the Blue Devils are an outstanding 21-1 with four wins over top 5 teams including a win over this same Louisville team in the Battle 4 Atlantis.
Mason Plumlee and Seth Curry are two of the best players in college basketball and with Kelly in there to attract some of the attention, it allows for Curry and Plumlee to score even more. Rasheed Sulaimon has quickly developed into one of the top freshman in the nation and provides a lethal scoring threat.
Duke just has so many scoring options to go along with great defense and a tremendous coach. Those are three things that you want on every team, and this Duke team is extremely successful because of those three reasons.
Louisville, on the other hand, isn’t the No. 1 overall seed as a joke. They marched through the Big East tournament and finished it off by making a great comeback against Syracuse that turned into a blowout.
Russ Smith is flat out incredible. He has 81 points in the three tournament games combined and has just dominated his opponents.
The Cardinals, just like Duke, play outstanding defense and are led by a fantastic coach. This will be a game of the two most talented teams in the country coached by two of the best coaches in the country.
It will be a game for the ages and is the best game in the NCAA tournament (even though it’s the Elite 8 and not the national championship). The winner of this game will be the favorite to cut down the nets on April 8th.
