Less than 24 hours after breaking his leg in one of the most gruesome sports injuries you will ever see, Louisville guard Kevin Ware is recovering nicely following a two hour surgery.
Head coach Rick Pitino said that Ware has been in “good spirits” and if all goes according to plan he will travel with the team to Atlanta on Wednesday. The university released a statement on Sunday night following Ware’s surgery that said he will remain in the hospital until Tuesday.
While Ware was likely undergoing his surgical procedure, the Cardinals were celebrating their second consecutive trip to the Final Four. A season ago, Louisville bowed out at the hands of Kentucky, but now the Cardinals are the only No. 1 seed remaining in the tournament’s field and their chances of a National Championship are much more favorable.
Albeit the Cardinals had to celebrate their Midwest Region championship without Ware in the building, they were sure to represent him very well. Sophomore forward Chane Behanan was among the players leading the charge and wearing Ware’s No. 5 jersey. During the celebration, Cardinals fans also joined in on the excitement, chanting “Kevin! Kevin!” during their post-game celebration.

The support for Ware has simply been incredible. Even famous rapper Lil Wayne offered his thoughts and prayers to Ware via Twitter.
Louisville and their Final Four opponent in Wichita State will tip-off at 6:09pm (EST) on Saturday night.
