2013 NCAA Tournament: Wichita State Shockers Have Had Toughest Route To Final Four

The No. 9 Wichita State Shockers have arguably had the toughest route to the Final Four in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. Let’s just take a look at who this Cinderella has played in the Big Dance.

First, it was the No. 8 Pittsburgh Panthers, then No. 1 Gonzaga Bulldogs, then the No. 13 La Salle Explorers in the Sweet 16 and then finally the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes in the Elite Eight. This team has really not had a break and it will not get any easier against the No. 1 overall seed in the Louisville Cardinals.

There is nothing mid-major about the path that the Shockers have had to the Final Four. Not many teams have to play two No. 1 seeds just to reach the championship game, but Wichita State is one of them.

The funny thing about this all, the Shockers were an underdog in all of those games expect for the contest against the Explorers. They will clearly be the underdog going into the Final Four matchup against Louisville. Does the Cinderella of this year’s tournament have two more upset left in them? We will just have to wait and see.

Whether the case, Wichita State has had the toughest path to Atlanta out of the other three Final Four teams. That tends to happen when you enter the tourney as a No. 9 seed, though.

With that said, if the Shockers can pull of their improvable run and end up winning the NCAA Tournament, they will without a doubt be one of the greatest stories ever in the greatest tournament in sports.
