Rutgers Scarlet Knights Still Hurting

It was bad enough that the Rutgers Scarlet Knights were 15-16 on the season. However, that was just the beginning of the bad news regardless of their season ending.

Rutgers then lost their head coach Mike Rice, as you may already know, since his viral video has been going…viral. Rice was, of course, fired, but that was not the end of the troubles at Rutgers and it won’t be the end for awhile. The Scarlet Knights’ assistant coach Jimmy Martelli resigned today.

Who is going to want to play for this team now? Whether if Rice’s players are defending him or transferring to a different school, Rutgers is not a pleasant team to be on right now. This team is in the media for all the wrong reasons. This is not good for a program that is usually never in the media, unless, of course, if it is playing one of the powerhouses in the Big East.

More Rutgers players could transfer, recruiting classes will take a hit and the players that do stay will have to be a part of a team that lost both the head coach and assistant coach. If players can get out, do it now.

It is going to be a long while before Rutgers can be seen in a good light. It won’t be tomorrow, it won’t be next week, but it will eventually happen. For the time being, this program is going to hurt, but that tends to happen when your head coach is caught on tape abusing his players.

Rutgers has definitely seen brighter days.
