As the Wichita State Shockers prepare for their Final Four contest against No. 1 Louisville on Saturday evening, a news release came in for next season’s CBE Classic.

Well, not only will Wichita State be participating in the 2013 field, they are the “headline” team. In addition to the Shockers, Texas, BYU and DePaul will also participate in next year’s field. So believe it or not, it’s the Shockers, not the Longhorns who are the team to watch out for. Not to mention, the CBE Classic takes place in Kansas City, so the Shockers should certainly have a nice home-away-from-home environment to boot.

The four aforementioned teams will all automatically advance to the championship round in Kansas City at the beginning of next year. Wichita State was the only team of the four to even qualify for the NCAA Tournament here in 2013.

BYU recently wrapped up the 2012-13 season in New York City, bowing out in the semifinal round of the NIT Tournament. Texas (16-18) and DePaul (11-21) on the other hand, both finished the season below .500 this past year.

The Shockers are hardly ever the “headline” team in an early-season tournament field, so its a testament, not only to the run that the Shockers are currently on, but also to the overall job that head coach Gregg Marshall has done. In terms of looking ahead to next year, it’s undoubtedly going to take an upset victory to dethrone the Shockers in Kansas City.
