2013 Final Four: Wichita State Shockers Need to Play Like A Riot Broke Out
The Wichita State Shockers reached the Final Four in a fairly dominating fashion. In every game the Shockers have led by at least 13 points at certain stages of each battle. This was mostly due to their ability to play a physical style of basketball that makes one wonder if they were better equipped for Wrestlemania than an NCAA Tournament run.
Now Wichita State has to face a team who isn’t a jobber, the Louisville Cardinals. Rick Pitino and his gang are going to try to bash the glass slipper the Shockers wore to get here, over their head. Wichita State, however, is not some cream puff of a mid-major. Rather, as they have proven, they can hang with any team in the country as far as athleticism and strength go.
The Cardinals are going to outclass the Shockers in terms of pure talent. There is a reason Louisville got the number one overall seed and Wichita State got a nine. Still, Cinderella is going to have a puncher’s chance to make the National Title game and shock an entire nation.
The Shockers are going to have to rely on backdrops, atomic leg-drops and any other wrestling term to just make this game competitive. It will not be surprising to see Gregg Marshall have his team utilize the majority of the shot clock while trying to make this game as short as possible. Making each possession count and increasing the importance of rebounding and second chance buckets — an area the Shockers excel.
If the NCAA Tournament has taught us anything over the years it is that a team like the Shockers have a chance. I mean, if they didn’t, how would they have gotten this far to begin with?
