Looking Ahead to the Wichita State Shockers' 2013-14 College Basketball Season

The Wichita State Shockers went on a magical run in the 2013 NCAA Tournament, but what will this team look like next year? Is it possible that the Shockers can make another Final Four run?

Well, Wichita State is losing some really good players from this year’s team, which includes Malcolm Armstead, Demetric Williams, Ehimen Orukpe and Carl Hall.

Hall and Armstead will clearly be missed the most, since they did both average more than 10 points per game on the season.

Hopefully for the Shockers sake, Cleanthony Early will return. Early led the team in points this season, but it is possible that he will declare for the NBA draft. If Early does return, than Wichita State will be a force in the MVC once again.

However, Ron Baker, Tekele Cotton and Fred VanVleet should all be back. All three of these players had good outings in the Big Dance. The experience that these three and Early now have will be huge for next year’s team. Sure, the same pieces may not be there, but Wichita State did make it to the Final Four this season and there is always that chance that it can do it again.

Just look at Butler a few year ago. The Bulldogs made it to the championship game, then lost their best player to the NBA. However, they still managed to make it to the championship game the very next year.

This team can still be pretty good next season, but it will be huge if Early returns and if Wichita State’s incoming freshmen can make an impact.
