Syracuse Orange Head Coach Jim Boeheim Apologizes to Reporter

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

Jim Boeheim has nothing to be ashamed of with this year’s version of the Syracuse Orange. While we expect Boeheim led teams to be good every year, this year’s team was not thought to be National Title contenders. Through the team growing together, Boeheim’s coaching and stars being born the Orange managed to find their way in the Final Four. Then they lost, Boeheim went bonkers and a rare apology was issued moments later.

In the postgame presser, CBSSportsGregg Doyel opened the press conference up with a fairly obvious question. Doyel wanted to know if the cranky coach was going to come back next year. Hilarity ensues:

Boeheim was understandably upset after the big loss and maybe Doyel shouldn’t have opened with a retirement question. Still, even Boeheim knew going personal was not the right approach for dealing with questions that he does not approve of. Later in the conference, Boeheim and Doyel made amends when Boeheim apologized for being personal and Doyel took the higher (I guess) road when the two talked like adults.

After Doyel told him why the retirement talk surrounds him, Boeheim explained his weird man-love for the ACC and took some shots at whatever the American Athletic Conference is going to be next season.

To be honest, as funny as it is to see Boeheim go bonkers, his antics and condescension has gotten out of control lately. It was nice to see him apologize to Doyel, even if Doyel was initially trying to be an instigator.

Looks like we will have at least one more season with America’s favorite grump!
