The Florida Gators have been known as a shooting team the last couple of years, but with center Patric Young returning for his senior year, the Gators could have a very dominant front court.
This is not saying that Florida’s backcourt will be bad, though, because Scottie Wilbekin is a great point guard, Michael Frazier II can flat out shoot, Braxton Ogbueze could play a big role next year and who knows how good the incoming freshmen will be, since Florida did pick up two 5-stars.
With that said, incoming freshman Chris Walker is 6’10” and him and Young could be a very dominant duo in the post. However, who knows how Walker will be used. We all know that Young will be a starter and he should put up pretty good numbers, since he did average 10.1 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Young has an NBA body, but it would be wise for him to work on his shot in the offseason because he is only 6’9”.
Will Yeguete and Casey Prather could easily start next season. Yeguete was one of the best defensive players on Florida and I am sure he is looking to have a big senior season. Yeguete is very capable of guarding anyone on the court and he could be very good alongside Young in the front court. Prather, on the other hand, is more of a guard/small forward and his 6’6” height and athleticism gives him the option to play many positions.
Between those two players, they averaged 11.7 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game this past season.
Young, Yeguete and Prather will all be seniors next season and all three of them will help make up a pretty dominant front court. Add in incoming freshman Walker and the Gators could be really good next season. Don’t expect this team to skip a beat next year as a result.
