Rutgers Scarlet Knights Going After Los Angeles Lakers Assistant Eddie Jordan
The Mike Rice scandal has not gone away with a whimper. Instead, the most infamous basketball scandal in years has become a transcending topic that has been covered by national networks and their beloved morning talk shows. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights, however, are trying to replace Rice quickly and move on from the fiasco as soon as humanly possible.
After Danny Hurely apparently turned down the job, Rutgers turned their eyes to a current Los Angeles Lakers assistant and former Scarlet Knight, Eddie Jordan.
ESPN has reported that talks are in the works, but while nothing is inked yet, the two sides are “close”.
Jordan may be most remembered for his head coaching stints in the league, although, he does have some experience in college. Jordan actually spent a few years as a volunteer coach for the Scarlet Knights before becoming a professional basketball coach journeymen.
Trying not to use the limited success he had in the pros against him, Jordan can prove to be an interesting hire if Rutgers was to go down this road. Still, these reports are coming a week after Ben Howland said he would be interested in the job. Considering that Howland has a ton of success as a head coach in college and Jordan has no serious experience at this level, it is a little surprising Rutgers did not give him a call.
Being only 58 years old, while having some professional experience, Jordan looks to be the front-runner for the head coaching position.
