Texas Longhorns guard, Myck Kabongo, no longer needs to be concerned about anything NCAA rules related. The guard, who was suspended due to a violation for 23 games this season, has declared early entry into the upcoming NBA Draft, according to Longhorn Network.
Just a sophomore, Kabongo’s draft stock is still a bit of a mystery. Without playing a majority of the games this year teams are going to be forced to rely on the few he did play and couple that with his solid freshman campaign. It should be noted, however, that in the games he did player this year, Kabongo showed great improvement and was heavily relied on to help Texas achieve any form of success it had.

Just this past Thursday, Kabongo was named as the team’s most valuable player as well as a captain for next season. I am assuming, while he was honored by the gesture, making loot was far more alluring than being at the mercy of the NCAA and their undying love of exploiting college athletes.
The Longhorns struggled mightily without Kabongo last season. Losing him early can be a big hit to whatever successes they planned on having next season. There is some good to come out of this, however, as knowing that he is gone this early may give them enough time to recruit to replace him or possibly develop someone they currently have on the roster.
Either way, Kabongo turning pro is certainly a big obstacle for Texas to overcome — especially after having a season in which folks started to call for the coach’s head on a stick.
