North Carolina Officially Announces P.J. Hairston is Returning to Team

You are going to see a lot of reports similar to this in the coming days. Student-athletes are running out of time to decide whether or not they want to declare early entry and throw their name in the draft. The North Carolina Tar Heels happened to be one of those teams waiting on a decision like that from a few different players. Well, they got an answer from one of their players on Friday.

North Carolina has announced that P.J. Hairston will be returning to the program next season. Hairston, in a statement, discussed things that helped make the decision as easy as possible. Things like talking to his family, Roy Williams and the overall life experience he has gained at Chapel Hill have all led to the talented guard’s decision to return to the school for his junior season.

Hairston was forced to play a lot of small and power forward this season because of injuries and a new system implemented by Williams. With a slew of players returning (some pending decisions) and a new recruiting class coming in, it is pretty safe to assume that Hairston will be able to play his more natural position of shooting guard next season.

Williams is waiting on some more decisions. James Michael McAdoo being the most important. McAdoo’s stock took a big hit in the middle parts of the season, but did recover some at the end. Some still have the athletic big man as a potential lottery pick. Regardless, with the new recruits coming in, most expect the Tar Heels to be a good team next season.
