The VCU Rams may not get as much press as a team like the Kentucky Wildcats, but head coach Shaka Smart has helped make a name for this program over the last few years. However, the players should be credited just as much. For the purposes of this article, though, we will look at senior Troy Daniels and how he will be missed in college basketball.
Daniels played four years at VCU, but he did not start making an impact until his junior year when he averaged 10 points per game. He also knocked down 94 threes. The increase in production–he only scored two points per game his second season–was largely due to the fact that he actually got to play more than 4.7 minutes per game.
In his senior year with the Rams, Daniels was even better from behind the arc, shooting 40.3 percent and making 124 threes on the year. Daniels was easily one of the best three-point shooters this season and although he was not the leading scorer for VCU, if the Rams ever needed a three-point bucket, you could bet that Daniels would knock it down.
VCU played two games in the 2013 NCAA Tournament and Daniels averaged 15 points per game. He may have not had as big of a game against Michigan as he did against Akron, but his seven threes made during the tournament was not too shabby.
The Rams will likely have a good team again next year, but they will not have Daniels.
The amazing three-point shooter will not only be missed at VCU, though, he will also be missed in the college basketball world in general.
