Would Lakers Assistant Eddie Jordan Work as Rutgers Head Coach?

There is a lot that’s wrong with Rutgers University. Former head coach Mike Rice has been fired following the release of the violent Rutgers practice video and the school’s athletic director and lawyer have both resigned. It’s hard to tell how deep this story goes into the university. However, it appears the athletic program is attempting to move on and find a new head basketball coach.

Rhode Island head coach Danny Hurley was the first choice to replace Rice, but has since turned down the job. Hurley has only coached the Rams for one season and decided to sign an extension with the school through the 2019-2020 season.

In an attempt to hire another “Rutgers man”, the school has turned to Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Eddie Jordan as their next candidate. Jordan played at Rutgers from 1973-77 and has spent all of his coaching career in the NBA.

ESPN is reporting that Jordan will meet with the university this weekend in order to finalize a deal to become the next head coach of the Scarlet Knights. They also report that Jordan will not be in attendance for Los Angeles’ game against the San Antonio Spurs Sunday.

Jordan would make a perfect fit for a program trying to climb out from under an unbelievably large scandal. He is a Rutgers alumnus and is a well-respected coach at the next level which will asssist in recruiting processess.
