Florida Gators Coach Billy Donovan Ready for Next Season
This past Wednesday, Donovan had a meeting with a group of reporters. A group who figured the head coach would like to talk about the previous season, although, Donovan already had his eyes on the future.
With Patrick Young telling the world he is coming back for another year, it won’t be like Donovan is going to have a team absent of talent. Still, Donovan feels like next year’s version of the Gators needs to play a little bit differently. And when I say different, I mean he wants them to play like someone is trying to kidnap their mothers.
During the media meeting, Donovan preached about his team becoming tougher and more relentless. The only times he mentioned the previous season were to discuss how his team fell flat whenever there were big moments in the games. That when his team needed someone to step up the most, nobody did.
Donovan is the face of Florida hoops. Not only does he have a good group of players coming back next year, but — as always — he has another solid freshmen class coming in as well. This is what Donovan does, lock and reload rather than building over a few years.
Florida fans know the drill. This is nothing new to them. While Donovan surely appreciates all the good things the leaving players brought to the table, he is already looking forward to molding and building a new group of winners for next season.
If the Gators need to be more relentless and tough, all they need to do is look at their head coach for inspiration.
