Notre Dame Alum's Fake Girlfriend Lannay Kekua Wins Bracket

It was a tough year for us folk who like to fill-out NCAA Tournament brackets. Despite us all thinking we are the smartest people in each pool we enter, we have a better chance of winning the lotto than knowing the Wichita State Shockers were going to make it to the Final Four. Still, worst case scenario, we should be able to beat a person who is six feed underground and fake — being alive and real, by the way, should be a perquisite for winning one of these pools.

That did not stop Lannay Kekua from winning ESPN’s tournament bracket challenge. The dead, fake girlfriend of former Notre Dame Fighting Irish star, Manti Teo, overcame the odds of being a fictitious character and still managed to win the whole shebang.

In reality, however, it was Craig Gilmore — another person pretending to be a troubled Californian — who actually won the contest.

It hasn’t been all gravy and free rides for Gilmore, though. The business analyst “won” by beating over eight million other people, but has only qualified to have his name be put in a drawing for a Best Buy gift card. Which is a roundabout way of saying that ESPN and Best Buy are a pair of sneaky devils. I mean, come on — dude beat millions of other folks and you are entering him in a drawing!

Plenty of lessons to be learned here. Do not trust ESPN as far as you can throw them. Best Buy, while awesome, does not care for the dead. And maybe most importantly, a fake, dead Lannay Kekua is better at brackets than the rest of the nation.
