2014 Recruiting Tidbit: North Carolina Offers D’Angelo Russell Scholarship
Someone lied to us and told us that college hoops season is over. Sure, the literal games themselves might be in the past, but some other aspects are about to pick up. Case in point: the North Carolina Tar Heels offering 2014 blue chip recruit, D’Angelo Russell, a scholarship.
Russell is rated mostly as a four-star player by most of the prospecting websites. His game has been described that of a sharpshooter, smooth and of being an overall solid player. Not too shabby for a gentlemen who has yet to be able to legally buy an adult beverage.
Tar Heels head coach, Roy Williams, has acknowledged the offer. He also mentioned how he thought Russell would be a tremendous fit for his system and that he hopes that Russell decides to come to Chapel Hill.
For the recruit, well, he has a slew of offers from all over the country. He, too, briefly mentioned that the Tar Heels made him an offer. However, he did not indicate if he was going to take Williams up on it. Rather, the 6-foot-4 guard talked about it being just another big-time offer.
There is still plenty of time for Russell to make his decision on where he plans on taking his talents. The guard did tell Sports Illustrated that he plans on making at least one trip to Chapel Hill in the summer. Now, Williams has to do his best to convince him that there is no reason for him to leave.
Russell is widely regarded as one of the top 25 players in the 2014 recruiting class.
