D’Angelo Harrison and Jakarr Sampson Will Make Up One of the Best Duos Next Season
Assuming that St. John’s Red Storm players D’Angelo Harrison and Jakarr Sampson both return to the team next season–which I don’t see why they wouldn’t–they will make up one of the best duos in college basketball.
St. John’s may have had a bad season with a record of 17-16 this past year, but Steve Lavin did miss some time and Harrison did miss the last six games of the season. In those six games, the Red Storm went 1-5.
Harrison has put together two solid years for this program, averaging 16.8 points per game his freshman season and exactly one point better his sophomore season. Harrison could easily go pro if he wanted to, but it would be good if he stayed in school at least one more year to improve his shot. Harrison only shot 39.4 percent from the field this year and 31.5 percent from behind the arc. However, he still clearly knows how to score the basketball.
As for Sampson, he was only a freshman and he was able to put up 14.6 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game. I would imagine that both stats would improve next season.
Although both players have two different styles, that is what makes them such a good duo. With them two in the lineup, St. John’s will have a good inside and outside game. Either player can go off for a big game and both could really put up some big numbers next season.
It also helps out a lot that 5-star freshman Rysheed Jordan committed to St. John’s and the Red Storm will be returning other players from this year’s team.
St. John’s has had some very high expectations ever since Lavin took over the head coaching job and next year could be the year that this team really takes off.
