Mike Poole Fourth Rutgers Player to Request Transfer

By John Engel

If Los Angeles Lakers assistant Eddie Jordan does in fact get hired as the next Rutgers men’s basketball coach, he won’t have much to work with. Junior forward Mike Poole is the fourth Scarlet Knights player to request transfer since the release of head coach Mike Rice.

Rice was released after a violent video of him physically, and verbally, abusing players during practice was released. He was previously suspended when the university administration first saw the video, but was fired one day after the video was made public.

Poole joins teammates Jerome Seagears, Malick Kone and Vincent Garrett on the list of transfers, and his intent to leave the university was confirmed by his mentor, Nate Blue, on SYN.tv Tuesday.

More transfer requests should be expected in the coming weeks, contingent on who is hired as the next head coach at Rutgers. In addition to current players, Rutgers is losing many of their committed recruits as no one wants to be associated with the scandal-burdenen school.

Jordan, who is reportedly in negotiations to be the next coach of the Scarlet Knights, would be a perfect fit to turn around the program. He has experience as an NBA head coach with the Sacramento Kings, Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers and will have supreme freedom to recruit nearly an entire team. The ability to guarantee instant playing time to young athletes could serve as an intrinsic recruiting advantage for Jordan in the future.
