C.J. Wilcox has announced that he will bypass an opportunity to enter the 2013 NBA Draft and he will he return for his senior year with the Washington Huskies.

Wilcox was projected to be a late first round or early second round pick in the draft, so returning was probably a wise choice, as he will be able to improve his draft stock over his final season as a Husky.

The guard out of Pleasant Grove, UT, was the leading-scorer for Lorenzo Romar’s Huskies, averaging 16.8 points per game in his first year as the primary scoring option.  Wilcox attempted 14 field goals per game, four more than he had averaged in any other season.

I don’t blame Wilcox for attempting so many shots last year as most games he was the only player that could score for the Huskies. Senior guard Scott Suggs was inconsistent and center Aziz N’Diaye could not be relied upon to score the basketball.

The Huskies should be able to improve on their 18-16 record next season. With addition of guard Nigel Williams-Goss, ranked as third best guard in the class of 2013 by ESPN.com, Wilcox will be given some help scoring the basketball.

Williams-Goss can also run the point, and hopefully he will do a better job than what Abdul Gaddy did last year. Gaddy, a fifth-year senior last season, was very sloppy with the ball, averaging three turnovers per game. The freshman will be a nice addition to the backcourt, and he will provide good support for Wilcox.

Wilcox will have very high expectations for his senior year, and hopefully he will live up to them and his Huskies will return to the NCAA Tournament after a two-year drought.
