Marquette Golden Eagles To Lose Five Players

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The Marquette Golden Eagles made a run to the Elite Eight in the 2013 NCAA Tournament, but they will be losing five players over the offseason.

The biggest loss for the Golden Eagles is without a doubt Vander Blue. Blue will be entering the 2013 NBA Draft. Blue put up 14.8 points per game on the season and was the best player on the team. Although Blue could have returned to the team for one more season, entering the draft while his stock was relatively high was probably a good decision.

Jamal Ferguson will be transferring. Luckily for this team, Ferguson did not play a significant role for Marquette. Then there is Juan Anderson, who will also be transferring. Once again, Anderson did not play a big role on this team.

Two players stuck around for four seasons in college basketball, so they will not be on the Golden Eagles next season for obvious reasons–that whole graduation thing will be taking place for both players. Junior Cadougan and Trent Lockett were both seniors for the team and both players played pretty significant roles.

So, Marquette will have to try and make up for the losses of Cadougan, Lockett and Blue, which will not be an easy feat. However, this is a team that is usually good on a yearly basis, so you would expect that Marquette will not skip a beat in the 2013-14 college basketball season.

There is still some pieces on this team that will be returning next year, so it is hard to feel too bad for Marquette, especially when it just made the Elite Eight.
