Rodney Purvis to the Connecticut Huskies is Official

Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

When a student-athlete wants to transfer from one university to another, a lot of things have to be done before they don their new team’s uniforms. First, they have to make sure their original coach is not “blocking” any of the schools he wants to transfer to. Then, the young athlete needs to submit a paper saying he wants to transfer, which might take up to seven days to be completed.

After all of that, well, they are allowed to take their book-learning and basket-making elsewhere — oh, and sit out a year for eligibility rules per the NCAA.

It’s really weird when you think about it. I mean when a coach is leaving, all he has to do is say buh-bye and hear cha-ching in his years. But hey, we are not here to talk about people exploiting kids for cash and abusing rules that were originally meant to protect them, but are now being used to prevent them from playing and learning at whatever university they want.

We are actually here, in this exact moment in time, to discuss Rodney Purvis doing all the things that the NCAA has asked of him and becoming an official member of the Connecticut Huskies. Although, because the NCAA has “rules”, Purvis is not eligible to play this season and will have to wait until the following to be a productive member of the basketball team.

UConn heavily recruited Purvis when he was coming out of high school. Looks like a little time went by and the two have decided to give it another try — this time together.
