JUCO Star Nyles Evans Headed to the Akron Zips

The MAC might have the best slogan going for any conference in the world of collegiate spots. “MACtion” is often used as an adjective to describe the type of play that happens in their basketball, and even more so their football leagues. It is supposed to help highlight the high-scoring, uptempo pace that the conference is known for.

It is not like the Akron Zips were known for a fast-paced style of basketball. Last season, their team ran through the veteran hands of Zeke Marshall. For those of you who are unaware, Marshall is a 7-foot man-beast who was not particularly fond of running up and down the court. Since he was clearly the Zips’ best player, Akron did not really push the ball as their football counterparts are known to do.

Well, Akron may have just signed a junior college player who is a little more speedy than our boy Zeke. Nyles Evans has signed his letter of intent to join the program. Evans played two previous seasons in junior college where he averaged nearly 16 points per game last season, and is also his high school’s all-time leading bucket-maker.

Evans originally announced his plans to transfer to Akron all the way back in December, but had to wait a little bit to make it official. With the letter of intent signed, a coach eager to use him and a fanbase looking to duplicate this past season’s success, Evans needs to get his sneakers tied tight for the basketball version of MACtion.

Mind you, I may be the only person in the world who uses MACtion while describing their basketball conference.
