Looking At Jared Berggren’s Final Season With Wisconsin Badgers

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Jared Berggren played his final season with the Wisconsin Badgers in the 2012-13 college basketball season. Although, Berggren is not the most highly rated player coming out of college, let’s take a look at his last season with the team.

On the year, he put up 11 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game. He was second in both categories on the team, but only by a little. He also averaged an impressive 2.1 blocks per game.

Wisconsin may have lost its very first game of the 2013 NCAA Tournament against the Ole Miss Rebels, but this is a team that challenged for a Big Ten title, even with the not so great start to the season. Berggren only scored eight points in his final game, but he did snatch nine rebounds and blocked three shots.

The most points he scored in a game this year came way back in the beginning of the season against Creighton. Berggren dropped 27 points in that game and added seven rebounds as well. The only problem was the fact that the Badgers lost that contest.

Berggren did not get significantly better from his junior season to his season year and his stats would say that he really did not get much better at all. However, Wisconsin was known as a defensive team and that is what Berggren did best, which helped him to be one of the best forwards/centers in the conference.

Who knows which team will pick him up in the NBA–if any at all–but Berggren had a very successful career in a Badgers uniform and unlike a lot of college players today, he stuck around for four years.
