On Wednesday afternoon, 7-foot USC forward Dewayne Dedmon announced his decision to enter the 2013 NBA Draft.

Dedmon, who averaged 6.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, is a raw talent that could eventually work out for some team. However, it’s a risky move. On the flip side of the situation however, Dedmon is 23 years old, so maybe the decision isn’t all that surprising.

USC’s official athletics Twitter account made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon:

According to DraftExpress.com, Dedmon is listed at No. 81 overall in their Top 100 prospects and ranks 26th among college basketball juniors. So at this point, it could potentially be a long shot for Dedmon to even hear his name called among the 60 selections in the 2013 NBA Draft. He is more of a project player, so maybe somebody will take a chance on him late.

With a new head coach coming to town in Andy Enfield, Dedmon clearly wasn’t about to spend another year in the collegiate ranks, even though the whole “Dunk City” philosophy is coming to Southern Cal. Dedmon did deal with injuries during his time at USC, so it was difficult at times for him to get things going.

Dedmon was also suspended for the Pac-12 Conference Tournament opener this past year for fighting with a teammate.
