Creighton BlueJays Offseason News, Notes and Tidbits

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The offseason period of college hoops can sometimes be as mundane as watching paint dry on a lobster’s face (why are you doing that anyway?). Still, it does provide newsworthy information like transfers, recruiting and coaching changes. Even with that, however, not every program in the nation is making moves like your favorite celebrity on Dancing With the Stars.

For the Creighton BlueJays, though, their offseason has been filled with plenty of things to satisfy all your needs for their hoops information.

The biggest of which is the fact that Doug McDermott is coming back for one last run with the program. Not only is it big for the program, but it also adds a nice little story about McDermott transferring his game to a much harder conference next season.

Which brings us to the BlueJays joining the Big East Conference. Now that they are officially on their way to join a tougher league, the aforementioned McDermott has a chance to show off his skill-set against tougher competition on a much more regular basis. It will be interesting to see how the program does as a whole against a slew of tougher foes as well.

Finally, Creighton has made some moves surrounding their coaching staff. Greg McDermott is still the main man in charge, but they have also promoted Steve Merfeld to Director of Player Development as well as hiring Peter Sellers as an assistant.

Sellers was hired for his ties to the conference and his ability to recruit. He has spent six previous years working in the league as a top-recruiter as well as an assistant for the Connecticut Huskies.

That is it for your Creighton offseason news, notes and tidbits. Hopefully, at least some of your many BlueJays-related hoops needs were filled.
