Rutgers Transfer Eli Carter Will Join the Florida Gators

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

One program’s shortcomings is another’s possible gift-wrapped transfer. Former Rutgers Scarlet Knights player, Eli Carter, could not get away from the Mike Rice debacle soon enough. Obviously the school was fine with granting him his release and Carter went off to the wonderful world of looking for a new university to call home.

Early on, there were as many suitors for Carter as there were speculations as to where he would go. In fact, if your athletic department funded a basketball program, well, your school was rumored to be in the running for the talented player.

It was not until Carter took to the mean streets of Twitter that we knew he had narrowed down his choices of schools to two. One of which was the Maryland Terrapins and the other, the Florida Gators.

Luckily for the Gators, however, Billy Donovan recently visited the recruit at his home. No word on whether or not he was more convincing than his UPS commercials, but it was definitely a good move that ended in convincing Carter to join the Florida program.

Florida only had one scholarship left to offer. Carter will help fill a variety of needs that the Gators are going to need filled.

For Carter, there are reasons why everyone and their mother was after him when he was released from Rutgers. Last season, he averaged a shade under 15 points per game before he fractured his right fibula, putting him out of action for the remainder of the season.
