Florida State Seminoles Landing Andrew Wiggins Would Be Huge

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

The Florida State Seminoles had a disappointing season. To make matters worse, a lot of talent will no longer be on the team and who knows how the Seminoles will fair in the 2013-14 college basketball season. However, if Andrew Wiggins decides to go to Florida State, this will make a world of difference for this program.

Other than the fact that the Seminoles would possibly be ranked in the top 25 and would have a much better chance at competing in the ACC next season, the national recognition of this school would go way up for college basketball.

Florida State is a football school and that is just how it is going to be. When it comes to college hoops, the Seminoles will usually always get the leftover recruits from the Florida Gators, North Carolina Tar Heels, Duke Blue Devils and many other schools. That is not saying that Florida State gets bad recruits. I am just saying that top tier recruits would likely rather play for better basketball programs.

That could possibly change with Wiggins playing in a Seminoles uniform. If this happened, I would imagine that Florida State would have success next season, which would show future recruits that Florida State could be a great school to play for and could actually compete in the ACC on a yearly basis. However, it is not like Florida State is a bad destination or anything like that, it is just that one-and-done players don’t usually play for this school–the highest rated recruits.

Florida State is not known for getting the No. 1 recruit in college ball, that is North Carolina and Duke’s job.

This team does have two 4-stars joining the team, but the recruiting class would get a huge boost if Wiggins joined. Wiggins is the type of player that can make an instant impact for any team he plays for in college basketball, but for Florida State, it would be much more. However, we will continue waiting to see which school he finally chooses.
