St. John’s Red Storm Enters New Big East Era with New Partner
The St. John’s Red Storm are hoping that the start of the new Big East Conference will help the program return to their glory days in the old league by the same name. While most people have the general thought bouncing around in their cranium that the Johnnies will be better than last season, Steve Lavin’s fourth year at the helm might end up being the most crucial for the coach in his tenure.
Lavin can handle it. Considering that a slew of talented players are coming back, a fresh face (who happens to be apparently awesome) is joining the team and another player is now eligible, this might end up being the best Red Storm team in years.
That is the good news. The bad? Well, all your St. John’s-related Nike gear is about as relevant as a T-Rex trying to dribble a basketball (while still awesome, it is not practical or applicable). It has been reported that the Red Storm are ending their long relationship with Nike in favor of sporting some new, fancy Under Armour gear.
When Under Armour officially takes over, it will mean a slew of trivial things will change. Mainly, their uniforms will get an update. Not that the Johnnies’ basketball outfits are outdated or anything (current uniforms have been sported since 2009), but maybe a fresh pair of red and white get-ups will make the program feel newer or something.
For those worried about a drastic change to the team’s uniforms, Under Armour has a reputation of only make slight alterations to their new partners’ uniforms. Which means, hopefully, no wacky Zubaz-uniforms or anything.
