Some surprises are awesome. They bring joy into our lives when we least expect it. Those kinds of surprises are so welcome when it hits you that you can do nothing but embrace its warmth. Then, well, their is the not so swell types of surprises. These specific types catch you off guard and makes you long for the days of everything going according to plan.

The Arizona State Sun Devils got a bad surprise of their own recently. During a conference call with fans, Herb Sendek announced that guard Evan Gordon would be leaving the program for greener pastures. This will be the second time Gordon has transferred, as he actually started his collegiate hoops career with the Liberty Flames.

Sendek did mention that Gordon — who will graduate from ASU this week — wants to play closer to home for family reasons. Since Gordon is scheduled to earn his college degree, the guard may be immediately eligible to play for whichever program he decides to take his talents to — more than likely though, he will still need approval from the NCAA. Since he wants to play closer to home, it is noteworthy that he calls Indianapolis home.

Gordon will be the second starter lost for reasons beyond the program’s control.

For those curious: yes, Gordon is the younger brother of the more well known Eric Gordon. That Gordon currently plays in a little something called the NBA.
