It has been speculated that Trae Golden was leaving the Tennessee Volunteers for various reasons. The strangest claim circling the mean streets of the Internet comprised of coach Cuonzo Martin being fed up with Golden’s repeated academic issues stemming from repeated plagiarism violations.
Not that everything surrounding Golden’s transfer has not already been super-strange, but now his father has decided to take to his son’s behalf and speak out against some of these claims. Robert Golden, who was initially silent regarding his son’s transfer, spoke to the News Sentinel about the reports and when asked if he was transferring out because of academic issues, the father said, ““No, no, no.”
The father also talked about his son just going out to purse new opportunities that exist in the realm of collegiate athletics and education.
Regardless, Golden is leaving the Vols’ program and the gossip-mongering can stop — for now. Do not expect the school or anyone from Golden’s camp to come out and speak ill of each other if anything did actually happen to cause a rift between the player and the school. Neither would end up looking good by doing so.
Golden has yet to figure out where he is going to be taking his talents for the duration of his eligibility. Many schools will be after the point guard, although the Vols seem less than upset that they are losing him as they have plenty of talent left in their backcourt to live up to the high expectations that are already on them for next season.
