Recruit Tre Campbell Commits to the Georgetown Hoyas

Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

College basketball is unlike their football counterparts in many ways. The biggest is likely the money that college football brings in and the various ways in which they do so. One of their big-time money-makers — well, really for the networks who cover them — is National Signing Day. The event is broadcast on ESPN, websites cover it to the point of nausea and the world is a less safe place because of it.

College hoops, however, does not have a day such as that.

So whenever a high school recruit has to announce a decision about their college destination, a certain platform seems to become their preferred way of doing so. Example: Tre Campbell, a prospect for the 2014 recruiting class, took to the mean streets of Twitter and let everyone and anyone in the free world know that he was taking his talents to the Georgetown Hoyas basketball program.

At 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, most recruiting websites have Campbell projected as a speedster who also has the ability to put the ball in the basket with some regularity. It is also worth pointing out that depending on which site you visit, Campbell is listed as anywhere from the 123rd best prospect in the class to the 81st. He has also been skyrocketed up some scouts’ “gradings” — meaning he might actually be undervalued as a player.

Barring some unforeseen moves, transfers or early entries, the Hoyas will only have one scholarship remaining to offer for the 2014 class.
