Butler Bulldogs Chasing Top 2014 Recruit Trey Lyles

Does it sicken me that we have to worry about the thoughts trotting through a 17-year-old’s cranium? You bet. Still, that does not stop you or I from caring about where some kid is going to take his talents — even if it isn’t for a few years down the road. If programs are going after guys in diapers, well, we can surely comment on his possible destinations (I hope you realize I am half-kidding).

Trey Lyles is by all accounts a fantastic basketball player. Most recruiting websites have him listed as a top 10 player nationally, even some as high as the fourth best player in the 2014 class. So it comes to no surprise that Lyles is on a lot of coaches’ wish list.

The Butler Bulldogs are no different. They, like many others, are currently in the Lyles’ sweepstakes. The only surprising part about them being interested, is the mutual feeling that Lyles has for the program. The player has reportedly trimmed his finalist down to six schools, with Butler being one of them.

It could be speculated that this is due to Butler moving to the Big East Conference. Since the program is now playing at a legit, big time league, it wouldn’t be like Lyles is going to some ho-hum mid-major who over achieves every year.

Or it could be that Brad Stevens is the right man for him to be coached by. Stevens does do a great job on the recruiting trail, although Lyles would certainly be one of his biggest commits if he were to land him.

More than likely, it is a combination of those two, plus him calling Indianapolis home. Regardless, Butler is in the mix.
