The connection between Andrew Wiggins and the Florida State Seminoles ran deep — the excitement about his decision and potential impact at the university was at the forefront.
Both of Wiggins’ parents are alums of Florida State and his high school teammate and good friend Xavier Rathan-Mayes had already committed to play for the Seminoles. Head coach Leonard Hamilton was getting credit for his work in pursuing Wiggins — it was all taking shape.

However, Wiggins announced on Tuesday afternoon that he was heading to Lawrence not Tallahassee, joining the Kansas Jayhawks and head coachBill Self. With the overwhelming and disappointing feeling still settling in for Seminoles’ fan, Florida State must understand that it is time to move forward.
Michael Snaer‘s time at Florida State is over, but Rathan-Mayes should be amongst those who can help fill the void. Aaron Thomas and Devin Bookert both had solid freshman seasons, but let’s see if they can take the next step forward in their second year in Tallahassee. Okaro White will obviously look to be the leader of this team, although the loss of Terrance Shannon (transfer to VCU) stings.
It’s a tough spot for the Seminoles — especially considering that Wiggins would’ve catapulted them into the top 25 discussion right off the bat. Now however, Florida State is going to need to make some statements if they even hope to dance in 2014. Conference realignment and an even tougher ACC schedule certainly doesn’t help either.
