Iowa Hawkeyes Deserve Some Respect For 2013-14 College Basketball Season

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

The Iowa Hawkeyes have not made the NCAA tournament since 2006, but that does not mean that they will not be good in the 2013-14 college basketball season. In fact, this team deserves more respect and that will be evident once the season actually starts.

The Indiana Hoosiers will likely be ranked to enter the season–which is all fine and dandy–but they will have a completely different team. Who knows, they could surprise a lot of people next year, but right now they just have a bunch of talent that has not proven anything–other than like two players.

The Hawkeyes, on the other hand, won 25 games this past season and will be returning some very talented players, which includes their two leading scorers. The only difference is that they will probably not even be ranked and if they are, they will barely squeak in the top 25.

If this much talent was returning for another Big Ten team, then they would be ranked near the top 10 every single time.

Sure, this team missed the tourney this past season, but it did finish in sixth place in a very competitive Big Ten Conference and a lot of talented players will no longer be in the conference, whether if that is from those players going pro or graduating.

Ohio State and Michigan State will enter the conference as the top dogs–what a surprise–but Iowa should not be too far behind them. In fact, as good as both of those teams will be, the Hawkeyes could easily challenge them. When it is all said and done, I do not think Iowa will win the conference, but they should earn a pretty good seed and should have a pretty high ranking during the regular season.
