The Charleston Classic may not be the most exciting early season tournament on paper for the 2013-14 college basketball season, but it will still have some great matchups. One of the teams that will partake in this tourney is the Massachusetts Minutemen.

Massachusetts is coming off of a 21-win season and a trip to the NIT. Who knows how the Minutemen will finish in the upcoming season, but tipping off the season by winning this tourney would be a great momentum boost going forward.

Joining Massachusetts in this tournament is UAB, Clemson, Davidson, Georgia, New Mexico, Nebraska and Temple. Looking at this field, New Mexico has been one of the best teams over the last couple of years, but with a new coach, who knows how the Lobos will do. Still, plenty of talent will be coming back, so they will likely be the favorites to win it all.

That does not mean that Massachusetts does not have a chance though. This is a team that finished sixth in a very good Atlantic 10 Conference just a season ago. Speaking of which, Temple is another A 10 team that will be competing.

Although winning tournaments like this is basically for bragging rights at this early in the season, they hold some weight come tournament time when a team is on the bubble or when seeding is taking place.

It will be interesting to see if the Minutemen can win the whole thing, but a good outing in it would be a plus, regardless. Looking at the field, it is not jam packed with powerhouse teams, so that is very likely to happen.
