Watch Out For the Virginia Cavaliers In the ACC Next Season

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

For whatever reason, the Virginia Cavaliers did not make the 2013 NCAA Tournament. However, with some great talent returning to the team, watch out for the Cavaliers in the 2013-14 college basketball season.

Both Joe Harris and Akil Mitchell will be returning to the team. Combined, these two averaged 29.4 points per game. Other players will be returning as well, so it is safe to say that Virginia will be one of the best teams in the ACC in the upcoming season.

This is a team that won 23 games this past season and finished tied for fourth in the conference. Virginia beat Wisconsin, Tennessee, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Duke on the season. Although expectations will not skip a beat for the Tar Heels and Blue Devils, they both lost some talent, with Duke losing by far the most.

With how good Duke was this past season, you can bet that the Cavaliers can beat it again in the upcoming season. The same goes for North Carolina.

It is beyond me why this team did not dance, but the same will likely not happen next season.

It’s hard to see Virginia winning an ACC title, but Miami will be nowhere as good–won the ACC–and once again, Duke and North Carolina will be losing some talent. The Cavaliers could enter the season as the third favorite team to win the conference, but the season is very far away, so you never know at this point.

Still, Virginia is set to make some noise in the ACC in the 2013-14 college basketball season.
