Two Players Will Have To Carry Ole Miss Rebels Next Season

The Ole Miss Rebels started off the 2012-13 college basketball season red hot. However, they still managed to find themselves on the bubble. That did not stop them from taking the SEC tournament and winning their first game of the 2013 NCAA Tournament. Unfortunately, this team will be losing a lot of talent and two players will have to carry them in the upcoming season.

Those two players are Marshall Henderson and Jarvis Summers. Sure, other players will be returning, but Henderson was the best player on the team this year and Summers played a pretty big role as well.

It will be hard for Henderson to score more than 20.1 points per game next season, but I could definitely see it happening if he becomes a more efficient shooter. In fact, he must do that if Ole Miss is going to even think about competing in the SEC. Henderson only shot 38.1 percent from the field, but his 35 percent from behind the arc wasn’t that bad at all. Not to mention, it resulted in 138 made threes on the year.

Then there is Summers, who scored 9.1 points per game and led the team with 3.8 assists per game. He should get a bigger role and will help carry the load with Henderson in the backcourt. Summers shot 40.4 percent from the field and 34 percent from behind the arc.

Since Kentucky and Florida will be stacked in the 2013-14 college basketball season, it is hard to see Ole Miss challenging either team for an SEC title, but you never know. If Henderson can be a beast on the offensive side of the ball once again, if Summers can step up and help lead this team and if other players can make an impact as well, the Rebels could be a surprise team in the new season.
