The Atlantic 10 Conference was one of the best conferences in the nation in the 2012-13 college basketball season, but that will likely not be the case in the upcoming season. With some great talent leaving, the Massachusetts Minutemen are one of the best teams left.
The Atlantic 10 will be losing Butler, Xavier, Temple and Charlotte. That leaves Saint Louis, La Salle and VCU at the top of the conference, who were among the best teams in the nation this past season. However, right behind them will be the Minutemen.
This team finished sixth in the conference standings this past season, but it will be getting some talented players back and could make some noise in the upcoming season. With that said, VCU could have its best team yet and the Billikens could easily be a top 25 team once again. La Salle should be a good team once again, as well.
So, although there will be plenty of competition for Massachusetts once again, they still could be a tournament team and should compete in the conference.
Who knows where this team will finish in the conference, but it could easily finish in the top three. With that said, some talented players will no longer be on the team, so other ones will have to step up, but that is usually the case with many teams in college hoops on a yearly basis.
It helps that Chaz Williams will be back, who led the team with 15.5 points per game this past season. There are definitely some good teams ahead of Massachusetts still, but this team is still one of the best teams left in the A 10.
